Our Story
My Love and Passion
Fly fishing saved Matt Klaiber’s life. After spending four years as an infantry man in the Marines, Matt returned to civilian life and needed help to cope with his experiences overseas. A decade ago a good friend introduced Matt to small stream fishing for rainbows on a trip with Project Healing Waters in Montana. He couldn’t get enough of the comradery and peaceful surroundings that come with fishing in the wilderness. Needless to say, he’s been “hooked” ever since. Born and raised in Washington, Matt is not new to the PNW fly fishing small business industry. Matt worked for Puget Sound Fly Company for six years before its closing in November 2022. Today, he applies his expertise in fly fishing with exceptional product knowledge at the Puget Sound Fly Shop. Find Matt there teaching customers to tie flies, securing reasonable prices on quality products and helping the fly fishing community - from newcomers to long-time fly fishers.
Partner in Crime
His partner and father, Jeff, is also a veteran serving at McChord AFB on fighter jets. After his honorable discharge he worked for Hewlett Packard for 35 years supporting IT in various capacities. At the age of 60, Jeff decided to retire and find a new venture. When the opportunity to partner with his son came up, he didn’t hesitate. Periodically through the years Jeff enjoyed salt water fishing. Although he has yet to fly fish (but will be learning) it gave him an opportunity to start a new hobby. More importantly, it’s an opportunity become closer to his son.
